NewDelhi: Union minister Maneka Gandhi today gave information about a pilot project. In this project, the panic buttons will be tested in mobile phones. It will be started from Jan 26. This project will be rolled out in different phases. It will be started in Uttar Pradesh. The aim of the panic button in the mobile phones is to ensure female safety in the country.
As a reminder, in April 2016, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) asked the phone makers to add a panic button to the mobile phone by January 2017. DoT had said in his order that Panic Button 5 or 9 should be in the form of Numeric, in order to make Emergency Voice calls easily.
Also, the mobile phone user must have the ability to enable or disable the panic button. The panic button should have been given in the mobile phones for a long time, but it was delayed due to unknown reasons. This panic button will get a police response in real time.
In an event in New Delhi, Central Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi told reporters that this pilot project will be started from January 26 in Uttar Pradesh. The Union Minister further said that if these panic buttons are successful in UP then they will succeed somewhere. The Union Minister said in reference to the highest crime rate in UP in UP.
